SMART Recovery helps people to gain independence from addiction.

The 4-Point Program offers specific tools and techniques for each of the program points:

  • Point 1: Building and Maintaining Motivation
  • Point 2: Coping with Urges
  • Point 3: Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors
  • Point 4: Living a Balanced Life

Mason Shalayda

Meet our SMART Recovery Young Adults 18-24 & Friends & Family group facilitator, Mason Shalayda!

Mason is an intern at AHM Youth & Family Services for the 2021-2022 school year, and a certified SMART Recovery Facilitator.

“Hey folks! My name is Mason Shalayda and I have been in recovery for 2 years. I am currently a Senior at Eastern Connecticut State University studying Social Work. I enjoy listening to music, going for hikes, playing with my two cats, and practicing gratitude every chance that I get! I look forward to helping you and your loved ones on the road to recovery.”

Our SMART Recovery for Young Adults age 18-24 will meet Mondays at 5:30 pm and Friends & Family on Thursdays at 5:30 pm, both online via Zoom. For more information about this group, Mason can be reached by email at MasonS@ahmyouth.org.

Dan Mixter

Meet our SMART Recovery for Teens age 16-18 group facilitator, Dan Mixter!

Dan is a certified SMART Recovery Facilitator and has been actively involved in recovery for more than 28 years.

During this time, Dan has worked with adults and teens on developing and implementing methods for achieving long-term recovery, one day at a time.

Our SMART Recovery for Teens age 16-18 group meets weekly at RHAM High School at 2:3opm.
